[Report] SDC CNY Open House 2012

For those who are not familiar with the tradition of "OPEN HOUSE". In Malaysia, during our own festival, we would invite all our friends, regardless of race and religion, to come to our house to celebrate the festival together. During which, we would eat and play together.

It is said that such tradition nurture understanding and friendship, and hence foster racial harmony. When we were planning our event for Chinese new Year, we thought it would be a great thing, if we could also organise an CNY Open House.

This Year is the first time we held an Chinese New Year in such scale. We are very delighted at the result and the outcome of the event.

Among the events that we planned are:

firecracker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_cracker) ...etc

As for the Yee Sang, Mrs Mah and Christine Liew, gotten the help of other members and friends, prepare a vegetarian version of the dish. We had great fun "Lou Sang", especially the Lion Dance Troupe were late - they were delayed by the traffic; and we all were feeling very hungry!

It made us really feel happy that so many people came and we all had so much fun, especially the younger ones! It makes really looking forward to the next open house.

[Report] Celebration on First Day of Chinese New Year 2012

Normally the attendance at the event marking the First Day of the Chinese New Year is always low; the reason being that most of the people would have gone back to their respective home town to celebrate with their families and friends. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the attendance at the ceremony.

The first surprise we had for the day was the arrival of Ven Jampa Tsering from India to lead us in the events during the Chinese New Year period. His arrival was only confirmed very late into our planning, and in fact he arrived on the early morning of 23 Jan 2012 (i.e. the First Day of the Chinese new Year)!

We are very grateful for the kindness shown to us by Ven Jampa Tsering and also the effort made by all the Sangha Member in Khensur Ladrang for making it possible.

One of the surprise was that Ven Jampa Tsering brought with a Tsa Tsa encasing the relics of our Guru Khensur Jampa Yeshe Rinpoche (who recently entered into Parinirvana in July last year). Ven Jampa Tsering conducted public blessing with the Tsa Tsa. We felt so fortunate to be able to be blessed by such an holy and precious object on the start of the new year.

We started the celebration by performing a simple light offering ceremony, then following by Guru Puja and Tsog Offering.

After that, we hang prayer flags.

Then, it was followed by the Tsampa throwing ceremony, (it is particularly known in that regard for its use in New Year celebrations by the Tibetan community, where it is accompanied by chanted verses expressing the desire for good luck in the forthcoming year, for both oneself and others).

Then we conclude the event in sharing of some refreshment and cake. All and all it was a very festive and enjoyable occasion.

[Report] Charitable Activities Prior to Chinese New Year

It is a common practice among Buddhists in Malaysia to visit welfare homes bearing donations and gifts for people who are less fortunate than us. This year it was no exception. We had two separate visits one to Kuala Kubu New Village and the other to a welfare home in Ulu Yam. They were led by Bro TE Lim and Bro Lam Chook Hong respectively.

The first event was organized by the Welfare Society of Kuala Kubu and was held in a community hall. It attracted 100 underprivileged old folks and mentally and physically challenged people, all having no one to care for them and relying on charity. Same handicapped and bedridden ones unable to make their way to the hall, the Ang Pows and food were delivered to them after the event.Representing S.D.C at the event to distribute the Ang Pows (red packet with money) are Bro TE Lim (our Hon Treasurer, Sis Lai Mee Ling (Asst Hon Treasurer) and Bro HP Lim (Chairperson of Building Fund Committee).

The second event was led by Bro Lam CH (one of our most senior members), Bro Lam's family and that of Mrs Mah's family, visit a welfare home in Ulu Yam Bahru.

 They cooked and shared dinner with the residents and the workers at the home.

 The home was cleaned and well maintained, and all the residents looked healthy and happy.

The generous effort of the members, families and friends of SDC contributed cash, provisions, towels and cooked food (value amounted to RM 5,200) to the Home.

They were delighted and conveyed their heartfelt thanks.

We rejoiced at the good deeds done by all.

[EVENT]: SDC Year of the Dragon CNY Open House

In conjunction with CNY and in accordance with the traditional of Malaysian society, we are organising an CNY Open House. Among the activities we intend to have are Lion Dance, Yee sang, Buffet Dinner, & firework (if possible).
